Project Management

Work towards a PMP® designation.

NEW fully online Project Management offering now available!

What is the PMI?

Please note: Due to the recent changes in programming due to COVID-19, all Project Management modules will be available through online and virtual classrooms.

Online courses will consist of a mixture of instructor-led learning, individual work, case scenarios, and assignments/project work.

Virtual classes will be held online using a combination of synchronous (live/real-time) instructor-led sessions, supplemented with asynchronous (everyone works separately) activities. Online attendance is mandatory and you are required to attend all synchronous sessions as they will be part of the contact hours necessary for the Project Management Institute (PMI) development units. The synchronous sessions will take place from 9 am-12 pm and 1-4 pm each day of your module. In order to claim the contact hours necessary for PMI, grading is applied as part of the mandatory attendance requirement.

Registration for fall courses will open on July 14, 2020.

What is the PMI?

PMI® stands for the Project Management Institute. In the world of project management, this acronym is ubiquitous. It is the world’s largest not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, and is widely recognized as setting the international standard for best practices in project management. Visit the PMI® site to learn more.

Why does the PMI matter?

Amongst other things, the PMI® is globally recognized for its standards and certification programs, including the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification. This title is held by hundreds of thousands of people internationally. According to the PMI®, “salaries and career opportunities for credential holders show that employers recognize the value delivered by trained practitioners.”

What is the relationship between McMaster University’s Centre for Continuing Education and the PMI?

The Centre for Continuing Education is a Registered Education Provider (REP) through the PMI®. This means we have met or exceeded rigorous standards for quality and effectiveness in project management education as defined by PMI. There are many recognized benefits to choosing an REP.

All of our project management courses qualify for the PMI’s® Professional Development Units (PDUs) which PMI® credential holders require for continuing education credits.

PMBOK, PMP, PMI and the REP logo are registered marks of the Project Management Institute, Inc.
