Grade Change Options for McMaster Continuing Education Students

McMaster Continuing Education takes the academic success, health, and emotional well-being of its students seriously, and recognizes the stress that students are feeling in these uncertain times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of our commitment to support students in ways that are fair and equitable, McMaster Continuing Education is providing students the following options in relation to final marks. They are as follows:

  1. A conventional grade based on completed course work.
  2. A Pass (P) designation in the case that the student has achieved a pass in the course.
  3. A No Credit (NC) designation in the case that the student has not achieved a pass in a course.

The deadlines to submit a request for a change of grade to Pass (P) or No Credit (NC) are:

  • Courses with an end date prior to and including April 30 must submit requests by Friday, May 15, 2020
  • Courses with an end date between May 1 and August 15 must submit requests by Friday, August 28, 2020

Note:  If you are considering a Pass (P) or No Credit (NC) option, please ensure that the option you select complies with any external association accreditation requirements. Some accreditation or certification organizations may not accept a Pass (P) grade to meet their minimum requirements. Please consult directly with your respective certification organization.

Terms and Conditions

  • The Pass (P) and No Credit (NC) options will only be available for courses graded in the 2020 Winter Term.
  • A Pass (P) designation will count as a credit towards program requirements, but will not be included in GPA calculations.
  • A No Credit (NC) designation will not count as a credit towards program requirements, nor will it be included in GPA calculations.
  • Only courses with passing letter grades can be replaced with a Pass (P).
  • Only courses with grades of F can be replaced with No Credit (NC).
  • Courses with a Pass (P) or No Credit (NC) will appear on the student’s official and unofficial transcript.
  • Pass (P) and No Credit (NC) grade revisions are final, they cannot be reversed or appealed, and do not allow for a tuition rebate.
  • Students cannot use these options (P and NC) for courses in which they are under investigation or have been found guilty of academic dishonesty.

Important information to consider prior to submitting a request for change of grade

This option applies only to 2020 Winter Term courses:

  • Students who pass a course but are not satisfied with their mark can request to change the earned grade to a Pass (P).
  • Students who fail a course can request to change this earned grade to a No Credit (NC).
