Examity Online Proctoring

Many course final examinations offered through McMaster Continuing Education are administered online through our partnership with Examity®, a recognized leader in remote test proctoring. Examity® provides a secure and convenient way to take your exams online.

Starting March 15, 2020, all Accounting (ACC) courses, as well as Surety (SAC) will have final examinations administered via remote live proctoring through our partnership with Examity®.

It is important to note the following systems requirements before registering in a course that uses Examity. Students must have:

  • A desktop computer or laptop with Windows or Mac operating system (tablets or smartphones are not compatible)
  • A webcam and microphone (built-in or external)
  • A connection to network with sufficient internet speed: at least 2 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload – test my internet speed.
  • A browser with pop-up blocker disabled

Details on how to access and schedule your final examination through Examity®, as well as all other information and requirements, are posted to your course shell in Avenue to Learn (A2L).

Students are responsible for paying $50 ($36 US) Examity proctor fee. Please refer to your course shell for more details.

Before you begin:

  • At least two weeks prior to your exam, register with Examity® and schedule your exam. Be sure to run the “Computer Requirements Check”
  • Have access to a desktop computer or laptop (not a tablet)
  • Have internet speed of at least 2Mbps upload and download
  • Have a working internal or external webcam and microphone
  • Have either a dry erase whiteboard (i.e. 9″ x 11″ or 11″ x 17″) with markers and eraser or have a paper shredder

Keys to a successful exam day:

  • Run the “Computer Requirements Check” at least a day before the appointment
  • Disable your pop-up blocker
  • Click “connect to proctor” to begin
  • Be alone in room
  • Have a clear desk and workspace
  • Have either a dry erase whiteboard (i.e. 9″ x 11″ or 11″ x 17″) with markers and eraser or have a paper shredder ?
  • Be connected to a power source
  • Your mobile phone and headphones must be out of reach
  • Have your government issued ID ready
  • Be prepared to perform a room scan
  • You must be in the webcam view throughout the exam

What can be done on the Examity Dashboard:

  • Create a profile: Select your time zone, provide a contact phone number, upload a photo ID, and answer knowledge questions
  • Schedule an exam: Select the day/time you are able to take your exam within the allowed window
  • Reschedule/cancel: Reschedule or cancel your appointment
  • Start exam: Click the start exam button to connect to the proctor to begin you exam session

How do I know if my system meets those requirements?

Who will be proctoring my exams?

  • The team is comprised of strong communicators, technical troubleshooters and well-focused college-educated professionals.

Will I have the same proctor support every time I take my test?

  • Examity® proctor support team are randomly assigned to exams.
  • You may get the same proctor support more than once, but you may also have a different proctor support for each test

Does the process of connecting to my proctor support cut into my exam time?

  • Connecting to proctor support, troubleshooting, and authentication does not count towards the exam duration
  • Please allow for additional time to complete the connection/authentication.
  • Examity recommends students to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment. However during busy times, your wait to connect may be a little longer

 What if something goes wrong?

  • Examity® offers technical support all day, every day.
  • If something goes wrong either before or during an exam, students can connect with our support team by email, by phone or by live chat
