Accounting Diploma

This program is an open enrolment program. There is no application required. To enrol in a course or the program, simply register online. Students should register at least three weeks before classes begin. Courses can be taken as part of a program or individually.

To be admitted to the CCE programs, students must have:

  • an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
  • be a mature student as defined in the Undergraduate Calendar of McMaster University; or,
  • be deemed an exceptional case.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

If your first language is not English, you must meet the University’s English language proficiency requirements.

Microsoft Excel - (Optional)


The Diploma in Accounting does not require you to be proficient in Excel, but some basic knowledge is strongly suggested to be successful in the program. If you have never taken an Excel course before or you need a refresher, we suggest you review available modules through LinkedIn Learning (LIL). LIL is available, free of charge, to all active McMaster University students. For details on how to access LIL, visit our LinkedIn Learning page.


Certificate in Advanced Accounting

The Certificate in Advanced Accounting is open to individuals with post-secondary education who have completed foundation/core-level accounting courses outside of CCE prior to beginning the Certificate. 

Note: Graduates of the Diploma in Accounting are not eligible for the Certificate in Advanced Accounting.
